Under the biotechnology curriculum, I am able to meet passionate professors and like-minded friends. Laboratory courses provide us with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience on using various laboratory equipment. The Office of Academic Advising and Support provides full support, from our personal development to career advising. Each year, a wide range of activities are arranged for students to grow and learn. To better prepare myself for the future, I have actively participated in these events. For example, the MenTernship program provides a valuable chance for me to learn and get advice from mentors; the peer mentor program enables me to guide and advise new university students. This year, I also participated in a competition named “Science is Everywhere”, which allows me to promote popular science to the community. I am glad to have the opportunity to execute my idea with the support from professors and SCI/HOME staff.
It is very fruitful! I have taken advantage of the many research opportunities offered by the IRE program. In the first two years, I was in Prof. Lortz’s research group doing experimental research on high-temperature superconductors. I continued my interest in this subject after I went for an exchange at Columbia University and worked with a renowned theorist Prof. Andrew Millis on the novel superconductivity of FeSe. After returning to HKUST, I got a chance to join Prof. Vic Law’s research group and started to train myself to be a condensed matter theorist and get to know the field of topological superconductors.
HKUST has given me plenty of trainings to be a serious researcher. I also met many friends who share similar ambitions and interests as I do. IRE has created an ideal environment for me to interact with brilliant students, PhDs, professors and even prominent researchers from foreign institutes.
Being enthusiastic in cutting-edge chemistry research, I found the IRE track is a great option for me, as it offers opportunities for me to reach out to multiple research groups in HKUST and work on long-term projects. The exchange and overseas research internships further levitate the science learning experience.
I've had many opportunities ever since HKUST, but one highlight would be the exchange program to the University of Waterloo in Canada. Apart from this, I have joined research projects supervised by Computer Science and Mathematics professors and worked alongside postgraduate students. As a sweet bonus, I got the internships opportunities in Indonesia and Hong Kong. Overall, the mathematics program and the University have given me the tools required for my early career, and I only need to utilize them!
I got my first internship opportunity in the summer of my sophomore year and gained experiences on conducting several projects and research with the professors. Besides, I joined an exchange program held by the School of Science in my junior year, which broadened my horizons and utterly changed the way I viewed the world. For me, studying DSCT at HKUST is one of the best choices I’ve ever made!
At HKUST, you can find many enrichment activities and exchange opportunities. I got the chance to intern at Wetland Park and learn about managing wetland and escorting eco tour. Besides, the field trips, lab works and faculty guidance have broadened my horizons, and helped me prepare for the career in environmental consultancy.
Studying chemistry at HKUST is absolutely an enlightening and rewarding experience! Not only did I reap the benefits of research opportunities, but I also had all-round experience in leadership. Doing research with professors and in HKSTP place significant importance on my self-exploration. They further ignite my passion for chemistry research!
Throughout the years, HKUST has offered enrichment programs such as Science Busking Team and Changemaking Leader. With the eye-opening opportunity, I can explore society and introduce science to the public.
The research-oriented Biochemistry and Cell Biology program gave me all-around laboratory training that equipped me for a career in the medical laboratory industry. At HKUST, you have the highest flexibility in course enrollment, you can enroll in any courses that can benefit your future endeavour. The Life Science advising team and faculty members are friendly, approachable, and helpful. They helped me a lot in career planning and taught me many lab skills on various occasions.
Studying Data Science at HKUST has been an exhilarating journey. The cutting-edge curriculum and hands-on projects have equipped me with valuable analytical and programming skills. From data visualization to machine learning, I've delved into various domains of this ever-evolving field. Faculty guidance has further enhanced my understanding of this subject. The opportunities for internships have been invaluable in preparing me for a rewarding career. I am excited to apply my knowledge to solve real-world challenges in the data-driven era.
