The School of Science at HKUST proudly hosted a visit for the Inaugural Hong Kong Laureate Forum on November 17, 2023, as part of its ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of scientists and researchers. The event was a resounding success, with over 15 talented young scientists from overseas attending the inspirational science lectures and informative visits to three esteemed research facilities.
The science lectures, delivered by Prof. Jensen Li, Professor in the Department of Physics, and Prof. Can Yang, Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, were the highlights of the visit. Prof. Li's lecture, titled "From the Second Quantum Revolution to Quantum Nanophotonics," delved into the exciting realm of quantum technology, while Prof. Yang's lecture, titled "AI for Science: Examples from Spatial Transcriptomics Data Analysis," explored the intersection of big data and interdisciplinary research. These engaging sessions provided the young scientists with invaluable insights, fostering their passion for scientific exploration through interactive engagement.
The research facility tours were equally captivating, offering the young scientists an exclusive opportunity to visit three research facilities: the Biosciences Central Research Facility, the Glassblowing Facility, and the Materials Characterization and Preparation Facility. Led by senior scientists and experienced laboratory professionals, these tours showcased cutting-edge technology and equipment, allowing the young scientists to envision the groundbreaking processes behind scientific discoveries made at these exceptional facilities.
