Speaker: Professor Haitao HUANG
Institution: Department of Applied Physics, Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Hosted by: Professor Haibin SU
Abstract
One-dimensional nanostructured electrodes are playing more and more import roles in electrochemical energy conversion and storage due to increased number of active sites, enhanced electron transport, shortened charge transport distance, and prolonged light-matter interaction, etc. In this talk, I will give three examples of our recent work on the application of one-dimensional nanostructured electrodes in solar cells, electrocatalysis, and anodes for Li/Na-ion batteries. (1) One-dimensional TiO2 nanotube photonic crystals were used to direct the propagation of light and/or slow down the group velocity of light to realize photon management in dye-sensitized solar cells for enhanced light harvesting. (2) Core-shell structured nanotube arrays of transition metal compound were used for enhanced electrochemical energy storage and improved oxygen evolution reaction. (3) Electrospun N-doped carbon nanofibers were used as free-standing anodes for high capacity and high rate Li-/Na-ion batteries.
About the speaker
Dr. Huang Haitao is currently the Professor in the Department of Applied Physics, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His current research interests include materials for energy storage and conversion (such as supercapacitors, rechargeable batteries and solar cells), and ferroelectric materials for energy applications. He has published over 240 refereed papers in top journals, including Nature Photonics, Nature Communications, Joule, Chem, Energy & Environmental Science, and Advanced Materials, etc. He obtained the Science and Technology Award (2nd class) from the Ministry of Land and Resources of China in 2017, and the Natural Science Award (2nd Class) from the Ministry of Education of China in 2019. He has been a Guest Editor for Composites Part A, Journal of Applied Electrochemistry, and Key Engineering Materials, and an advisory board member of Journal of Materials Chemistry C. He is currently on the editorial board of Scientific Reports, Composites Communications, Science of Advanced Materials, and Materials Reports: Energy. He is also the board committee member of the International Academy of Electrochemical Energy Science (IAOEES).
