Abstract

One-dimensional nanostructured electrodes are playing more and more import roles in electrochemical energy conversion and storage due to increased number of active sites, enhanced electron transport, shortened charge transport distance, and prolonged light-matter interaction, etc. In this talk, I will give three examples of our recent work on the application of one-dimensional nanostructured electrodes in solar cells, electrocatalysis, and anodes for Li/Na-ion batteries. (1) One-dimensional TiO2 nanotube photonic crystals were used to direct the propagation of light and/or slow down the group velocity of light to realize photon management in dye-sensitized solar cells for enhanced light harvesting. (2) Core-shell structured nanotube arrays of transition metal compound were used for enhanced electrochemical energy storage and improved oxygen evolution reaction. (3) Electrospun N-doped carbon nanofibers were used as free-standing anodes for high capacity and high rate Li-/Na-ion batteries.
