Serving as a mentor of the alumni mentoring program has undoubtedly been an enriching and rewarding experience for me. I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to interact with my mentees and share a strikingly similar background to mine. As part of the program, we convened on several occasions to exchange ideas and discuss my personal journey as an alumnus of the School of Science. Their experiences and challenges mirrored many of those I encountered during my academic journey, some of which I successfully navigated, while others posed more significant hurdles. Furthermore, I was delighted to connect with alumni from a diverse array of industries. There is a common misconception that graduates from the School of Science can only pursue careers in teaching or research. This program, however, has debunked this stereotype. I had the privilege of meeting mentors from various sectors such as Marketing Research, Cybersecurity, Medical Sales, and ESG consultancy. This diversity not only benefits students, who can select mentors from industries they are interested in, but also mentors, who can gain valuable industry knowledge from their peers. This cross-pollination of ideas and experiences is indeed a treasure trove for all participants.
