The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) School of Science and UniPro Technology Limited have signed a collaboration agreement to advance research, talent development, and industry-academia exchange in digital finance. Under the agreement, UniPro Technology Limited will form a close partnership with the Crypto-Fintech Lab under HKUST’s Department of Mathematics, supporting its research and academic exchange by integrating industry resources with academic expertise and jointly exploring frontier topics in digital finance.
Led by Prof. Kani CHEN of the Department of Mathematics, the Crypto-Fintech Lab brings together more than 30 members and advisors to advance research in financial technology and its applications while enhancing collaboration between academia and industry. The collaboration will strengthen research in cryptography, blockchain, smart contracts, token economics, and decentralized finance, while fostering opportunities in research partnership, knowledge transfer, academic exchange, and talent cultivation.
At the signing ceremony, representatives from both parties exchanged views on frontier research and real-world applications in digital finance. The combination of HKUST’s academic strengths with UniPro’s industry expertise aims to accelerate the translation of research into practical solutions and contribute to the growth of Hong Kong’s digital finance ecosystem.
Prof. XU Kun, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Mathematics at HKUST, highlighted Hong Kong’s position as an international financial centre and emphasized the university’s commitment to interdisciplinary research and close collaboration with industry to deliver real world impact.
Mr. Lorenzo GU, Director of UniPro Technology Limited, underscored the importance of universities as hubs of talent and innovation. He expressed his expectations to deepen connections with HKUST, engage with students to explore new ideas, and promote the development and implementation of innovative outcomes.
UniPro Technology Limited is the developer of UniSat Wallet and UniSat Marketplace, focusing on services related to Bitcoin-native assets and the Fractal Bitcoin blockchain. Both parties regard this collaboration as the beginning of closer industry-academia cooperation, fostering knowledge exchange, student engagement, and innovation in digital finance.
