Professor Adrian Hoi Chun Po, Hari Harilela Assistant Professor of Physics from HKUST, has been awarded the 2024 Asian Young Scientist Fellowship.
The Asian Young Scientist Fellowship (AYSF), established to encourage young scientists in Asia to conduct innovative and transformative research, annually selects twelve outstanding early-career scientists from China (Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan), India, Japan, Korea, and Singapore. The Asian Young Scientist fellows each receive an award of USD$100,000 to support their research for two years. Professor Po, a condensed matter theoretical physicist, was selected from a highly competitive pool of nominees for his exceptional contributions to the field of Physical Sciences. His research focuses on the study of collective phenomena arising from a large number of quantum particles. The AYSF Committee recognized Professor Po for his contribution to the development of symmetry indicator theory for topological bands, and his further exploration of entangled electrons with both topological band structure and strong correlations in emergent renormalization space.
Since joining HKUST in 2021, Professor Po has also garnered other important awards for his research accomplishments, including the Croucher Tak Wah Mak Innovation Award 2023 and the Frontiers of Science Award 2023.
