The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is honored to appoint Dr. ZHANG Chaoyang as Adjunct Professor in its Department of Physics and the Division of Social Science, effective 1 August 2026.
Dr. ZHANG, Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Sohu.com Limited, is widely recognized as a pioneer in China’s digital economy. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Tsinghua University and his PhD in Experimental Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1996, he founded Sohu, one of China’s earliest internet companies, and has since played a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s digital landscape.
As an industry leader who successfully transitioned from scientific research to the internet sector, Dr. ZHANG brings a unique perspective that bridges academia and industry. His appointment will enrich the academic experience at HKUST, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and inspiring innovation across disciplines.
